Planting trees and alleviating extreme poverty

Today we're announcing an initiative that will extend and protect forest areas around the world. We'll be donating money to tree-planting schemes which are run in Brazil and elsewhere. Our goal is to plant 24,000 brand new trees every year.

Tree Planting

Urgent action to tackle climate change is needed and the role trees play in removing CO2 from the atmosphere cannot be underestimated. They’re a precious natural resource and, as a natural carbon sink, play a vital role in the fight against climate change. That’s why we’ve turned to tree-planting to offset our impact on the environment. In fact, according to One Tree Planted, 15% of all greenhouse gas emissions are the result of deforestation. That’s why reforestation is so important for battling climate change.

On top of this, we intentionally select suppliers who believe in limiting the use of virgin material. For example, the mounts in your frames and boxes used for shipping are made from almost 100% recycled paper. All of our key suppliers have robust environmental policies.

Responsible Reforestation

Tree planting won’t just help remove CO2 from the air. By planting 24,000 trees a year, we’ll be creating employment for local families. The charities we work with promise to provide fair wages to villagers who plant and protect the trees, resulting in multiple positive socioeconomic and environmental benefits. In fact, all the workers involved are paid at least the required minimum wage for a full month’s work… regardless of the number of days they work during that month. For the vast majority of workers, their work in helping to plant these trees goes to providing them with their first income.
