Prints & Uploading

  • Create a framed or mounted print
  • It's possible to create truly stunning framed pictures online with our Design Studio. It's very simple to do:

    1. Upload your image using our Instant Upload™
    2. Select "Frame This" from the "My Uploads" page. You'll be taken through to our Design Studio with your selected image framed in a default style or upload a picture in the Design Studio
    3. Select from the various options until you're happy and then click "Add to Basket"
  • Uploading photos
  • Our Instant Upload™ software makes uploading your images straightforward.

You can start using our Instant Upload™ software by clicking the Upload button on our Design Studio.

  • Image types you can upload
  • We only support JPEG (files that end in .jpg or .jpeg) with a maximum file size of 40mb. You will not be able to use the formats BMP, TIFF, GIF, PNG or PDF when you try and upload your files from your computer. We have no minimum file size.

  • To check the file type of your photo on a PC running Windows:

    1. Locate a file, then right click that file > click "Properties"
    2. The file type of your photo can be seen next to "Type of file:"
  • To check the file type of your photo on a Mac:

    1. Select a file, then choose File > Get Info or press Command (⌘)+I.
    2. Click the triangle next to Name & Extension to expand the section and see the filename extension for the file.
    3. To show or hide the filename extension, select or deselect "Hide extension."
  • By default our workflow will attempt to use an embedded image profile. If there is no profile embedded within the image we will use our default profile.

  • Avoiding long upload times
  • The time taken to upload your images can vary depending on the file size, your connection speed and how busy your internet service provider is. As an example, a 2mb JPEG file (a typical file size) should take between 4 and 8 seconds to upload on a standard connection.

  • Transfer time will increase if your image is bigger, but generally, the bigger your image the better it will look printed.

  • To check the size of your photo on a PC running Windows:

    1. Locate a file, then right click that file > click "Properties"
    2. The size of your photo can be seen next to "Size:"
  • To check the size of your photo on a Mac:

  • We test our website on all popular browsers, but if you're having trouble uploading an image try using a different browser. We recommend using the latest versions of either Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. Please also check that your file size is no larger than 40mb and is one of our accepted file types. If you still encounter issues, please contact us.

  • Improving printing results
  • Taking Your Photo

We always recommend setting your camera to capture images at the highest possible resolution. The will allow us to create crisp prints at larger sizes. There are however factors, other than resolution, that can affect the quality of your photos.

  • Cropping Your Photo

Quite often you can improve the appearance of your photo by cropping out unnecessary parts. Cropping allows you to create a focus and remove any distracting elements from the photo. You can crop your image with us when you upload your picture. Please remember that as you crop your image the resolution will be reduced.

  • Enhancing Your Photo

Before uploading your photos, you can remove any imperfections and enhance the overall look of the image. This can be done using a range of both free and professional grade photo editors such as Adobe Photoshop.

  • Which paper should I choose?
  • Epson Enhanced Matte (189gsm)

  • An economy matte (zero sheen) paper. Great for value minded customers seeking a flat matte surface, Epson Enhanced Matte Paper is the ideal choice. This bright white paper is perfect for images that do not require gloss. It yields highly saturated images, while maintaining excellent highlight and shadow detail.

  • Epson Luster (260gsm)

  • An economy semi gloss photo paper. Wedding, portrait and school photographers have traditionally used luster paper for their photos. This instant drying paper produces vivid, lifelike images that rival those of traditional silver halide prints.

  • Hahnemühle German Etching (310gsm)

  • A premium matte (zero sheen) paper. This heavyweight etching paper is velvety smooth with a fine surface texture. German Etching is one of the most popular media worldwide for higher quality artwork and photography.

  • Hahnemühle Photo Rag Pearl (320gsm)

A premium semi gloss photo paper. Photo Pearl is a finely structured PE paper with a pearlescent surface. Its high-quality ink absorbing layer enables exceptional image quality with enormously detailed sharpness, maximum black values and a very broad colour space. The vivid and highly detailed colour rendering guarantees photo-realistic prints of impressive quality.

  • Visible Print Area
  • Please note that all frames have a lip onto which the glazing and artwork rests. This is to prevent the items falling through the front of the frame. This means the visible size is slightly less than the physical print size by about 5-10mm on each edge.

  • If you order a mount then we will make the aperture roughly 10mm smaller than your print dimensions. This will allow us to fix the print to the reverse side of the mount, keeping it in place. This means the visible size is slightly less than the physical print size by about 5-10mm on each edge.

  • Every attempt will be made to trim your prints as accurately as possible. Prints however are cut by hand on a professional guillotine to +/- 2mm tolerance. We will of course always ensure that your print fits perfectly inside your frame and/or mount.
