Very easy to get it wrong when framing

It is very easy to get it wrong when you are choosing a frame or mount for a new piece of artwork as well as reframing something you have had for years. Whether it is a favourite painting of yours, a famous print or a family photograph, choosing the frame and mount wisely is advisable.

When there are so many choices available, it is very easy to become overwhelmed with what is on offer and you need to be aware of what is going to suit your piece of artwork and what isn’t. You will need to decide very early on whether to go with a contemporary or a traditional frame. Each of these types of frames are suitable for a range of different types of artwork but generally traditional frames are best suited to certain types of paintings and photographs, whereas more contemporary styles of artwork such as prints would look fantastic in a contemporary frame.

Similarly, you want a mount that is going to enhance and protect your artwork. It should not distract the eye away from what is inside the frame and should be chosen alongside the frame.
