Things to remember when mounting and framing artwork

There are a few dos and don’ts when it comes to artwork and framing. By paying attention to the finer details, you will be sure to have a fantastic piece of artwork to hang on the wall of your home.

Choosing the right picture frame is imperative. Having the wrong type of frame will ruin a perfectly good piece of artwork. Care should be taken to choose the right colour, style and size of frame.

You should always use a mount when framing your art. Whether it is a print, photograph or a painting, a mount should be used to separate the art from the glass inside the frame.

Never touch your artwork with your bare hands, especially paintings. The oil on our hands can damage the artwork and that is the last thing you want to do after you have spent money on buying it. Having your artwork professional framed will ensure that no damage will occur whilst your artwork is being framed.

Once your artwork has been professional framed, you will need to take care when hanging it in your home. Never place a piece of art in direct sunlight or over a working fire. Heat, sunlight and dust can all damage artwork.
