Selecting the right mount for your artwork

March 29, 2010
Posted in Picture Mounts — Written by Adam

You may have thought that mounts are used when framing pieces of art just to make the artwork look pretty, but in fact they play a vital role in protecting and preserving your chosen piece of art.

Whether you are framing print, photograph or a painting, you should not forget to use a mount. Not using a mount will result in your artwork becoming damaged in the long term. All types of artwork should be framed using a mount so that the art is separated from the glass. There is such a wide range of mounts; there is no reason why you can’t find one to suit your piece of art.

With so many different colours when it comes to mounts, you will need to choose carefully so that the mount does not overpower the art that they are being framed with.

If you artwork doesn’t suit a mount, there are special spacers, which can be inserted into the frame to stop the glass from damaging the artwork. Having a space between the art and the glass also means that there is nowhere for moisture to collect and cause mildew and mould on your artwork.
