Overpowering your art with a frame

February 27, 2010

When choosing your picture frame for your pieces of art, you also need to bear in mind that there will also be a mount inside the frame to help protect and preserve the photographs, prints or painting. Picture mounts and frames come in all different shapes, sizes and colours and are typically made from wood or metal.

Depending on the type of artwork that you have will depend on the type of frame that you use. You want your frame to show off your artwork and the frame should not overpower the piece of art.

It can be really easy to get carried away when you are choosing a frame, especially when you see the selection that is on offer. You can choose every element of your frame and mount so that it is unique to you.

When choosing your picture frame, you need to remember that you want your artwork to stand out and the frame and mount should not overpower the artwork. Choosing a brightly coloured for certain types of art will not help to enhance the look of the artwork itself. Similarly, the mount should preferably a neutral colour so that it does not distract the eye away from the artwork.
