Importance of using a mount when framing

March 1, 2010
Posted in Picture Mounts — Written by Adam

You may not realise it but using a picture mount when you are framing is as important as the frame itself. Many people disregard the use of picture mounts because they do not realise how important they are for looking after and preserving the piece of artwork that you want to frame.

Any professional framer will tell you how important it is to use a mount with your picture frames. Depending on what you are framing will depend on the type of mount you might use and what width would be appropriate for your piece of art. It is important to spend time considering your frame and mount carefully because they are going to be surrounding your photograph, print or painting for a very long time and you don’t want to regret choosing a particular frame.

Depending on what type of art you are framing will decide what type of frame to use. Generally more traditional types of artwork such as paintings are framed using a more traditional frame than one might expect to be used on a print or a photograph. Prints and photos tend to be put into a more contemporary style of frame.
