How to select the right wooden picture frames

Anyone who collects paintings and art will assure you that a suitable picture frame is extremely important. Finding a suitable wooden picture frame for a painting is necessary as the frame can really add to its’ look. In some situations, wooden picture frames can also form part of the artwork. Fortunately, there are a wide variety of custom and standard wooden picture frames to choose from, however this can also make choosing the best one a tricky task.

If you want to buy the perfect wooden picture frame, here are a few things that you should consider first.

Size- The first thing to keep in mind when choosing a wooden picture frame is the size of the art work. You can easily find frames for standard size canvases, although if the canvas is not a standard size, a custom made picture frame may be required.

Shade- Once the size of the wooden picture frame has been decided, the next important consideration is the shade of the wood. Remember that the shade of the picture frame should complement both the picture and the room. Darker shades are a safe option, although if lighter colours are dominant in the picture and the room, a lighter shade may be more suitable.

Along with selecting the right wooden picture frame, make sure the colour of the mat board complements the picture.
