Having the right glass with the right frame

In addition to having the right colour and style of picture frame, you also need to make sure that you have the right type of glass inside the frame.

The reason why there is glass in the frame is to protect your artwork from being damaged. Photos, prints and paintings can be easily damaged without you even realising it. Moisture and sunlight damage can happen over a long period of time and by the time you have noticed that your artwork has been affected it is often too late. This is why it is so important to frame your favourite pieces so that they don’t become damaged.

The glass inside the frame helps to keep dirt and moisture away from your artwork. Some picture frames have clear picture framing glass, which is the most common type of glass to use. However, it does not offer as much protection for your artwork non-glare or non-reflective glass. Although this type of glass is generally more expensive, in the long run it helps to protect your artwork whilst it is in the frame.

You can also get glass that has ultra violet filtering so no damaging sunlight can affect your print or painting and extend the life of your artwork.
