Framing has changed over time

Having an eye for art is a skill that not a lot of people have. Knowing when a piece of artwork such as a painting, print or a photograph could have the potential of becoming worth a lot of money takes a lot of time and effort.

In addition to knowing your Monet from your Picasso, you will also need to know something about how the artwork is framed. Traditionally paintings were framed using ornate wooden picture frames this was to make the artwork look presentable once it was hung in the homes of the rich and famous. In those days only those with money could afford to buy pieces of artwork for their home.

Nowadays, art is very different. With many people choosing to frame photos, prints and artwork for their home they take a different approach than using traditional frames. You can choose to use metal frames as well as more contemporary wooden frames. You also don’t necessarily have to have an expensive piece of art to go in your picture frame. You can frame anything you like, from your child’s first hand prints, to their first painting at school or even a certificate from their swimming class.
