As a shodouka (Japanese calligrapher), it is very difficult to get standard frames to for the various papers (araragi and such) that I use for Japanese calligraphy.

Therefore I was delighted to discover eFRAME. I could simply measure the piece, type in the measurements, and then await delivery of the frames.

Excellent and simple as well…

I am artist based in Twickenham, South West London.

Home is a trade show which attracts buyers from all the main design and interiors stores (John Lewis, Not On The High Street, Selfridges, Heals, Anthropologie and so on). It runs alongside its big brother show, Topdrawer, which showcases gifts and fashion accessories to buyers and is a major barometer for future trends. The shows, which ran mid-January 2012 for three days, are the first buying shows of the year, which means some of things spotted there are what you’ll see in stores later this year.

Birds have always fascinated humans. Their flight has inspired writers, artists and engineers to create poems, legends, novels, airplanes and superheroes. The new BBC documentary Earthflight frames this fascination in a way that nobody has before. It’s awesome.

Earthflight was made for the BBC by John Downer Productions in high definition. I can imagine they spent years devising the methods needed to capture these shots, and then some more to shoot them.

The results, the amazing detail in which you can see their bodies interacting with the wind and the extreme angles, are incredible:

This is Clare College Bridge over the River Cam – the oldest of the all the bridges in Cambridge.

‘The Backs’ in Cambridge, where this can be seen, are such a great spot for photographers. The way the many bridges frame the surrounding scenery can make for some truly outstanding photos.

Astonishing images from the Beeb again – if I took pics like these, I’d put every one in picture frames.

When framing your photos, remember to think about several different things that could add that extra sparkle and touch to your photographs. Try to relate the design of the large photo frame to what is actually happening in the photo. For example, if you’re displaying a beautiful picture of your children, get a funky, colorful and bright frame. If you want to put a picture of your dog or other pet in the frame, you could consider using a frame with the title “I love my dog” or other such phrase.

For all you David Hockney fans out there…

After the huge success of Bigger Trees Near Water (a ginormous landscape painting that covered 50 canvases [I think this is too big even for us to frame! - Ed]) at the Royal Academy’s Summer Exhibition back in 2007 – principle curators Edith Devaney and Marco Livingstone approached Hockney for a possible exhibition in 2011 which he said he’d only do if he were able to capture four seasons over four years. The result is David Hockney: A Bigger Picture – the most ambitious project in the Academy’s 244 year history combining the scale and grandeur of Anish Kapoor’s 2009 collection with the intimacy and vividness from The Real Van Gogh exhibition in 2010.
