Different coloured frames

To add to the confusion of selecting a frame for your artwork, there are also different coloured frames for you to choose from. Both contemporary and traditional frames come in different colours and depending on what type of art you are framing and what colours are being used in the art itself, will depend on the colour of the frame that you choose. Therefore, it is worth bearing in mind a couple of pointers when choosing a coloured frame for your artwork.

Black and white photographs, prints or paintings look much better when they are framed using a black or silver frame. This is because if you choose a coloured frame, it would distract you away from the artwork itself.

Similarly, lightly coloured artwork should be put in a frame made from a light wood or silver. Silver is a great colour for matching with purples, blues and whites when framing your artwork.

Dark coloured frames should be used for the most vibrant colours that you can get in art such as reds, oranges and yellows, gold frames would also be perfect for framing these colours. Traditional types of frames tend to be made using dark wood.
