Choosing the size and width of your mount

I bet you didn’t realise how important a mount is when it comes to framing photographs and artwork. Many people do not realise that a mount actually plays an important part in framing and preserving the piece that is being framed.

Mounts are there not only to make the artwork look good inside the frame, it helps to stop the glass from touching the painting, print or photograph and ensures that no condensation or mildew builds up inside the frame which can ultimately damage the artwork.

Mounts and frames are mostly chosen together to ensure that they work together and complement one another as well as the artwork. Mounts are cut to suit each individual piece of artwork and it is done using a machine to ensure precision. The edges of the mount have a bevelled edge, which looks sleek and sophisticated once it is beside the artwork.

Mounts come in a range of sizes and thicknesses as well. You can have any size of mount made to measure if you have a particularly large piece of artwork or something that is very small. The width of the mount can also be adjusted to suit the artwork as well as the frame that you have chosen.
