Choosing between contemporary and traditional

April 27, 2010
Posted in Picture Frames — Written by Ryan

Choosing between a contemporary or traditional frame usually depends on what is going to be framed inside of the frame. If you have a traditional style painting or portrait, it will typically look better if it is presented in a more traditional style of frame, whereas photographs, particularly black and photos look better inside a contemporary frame.

It can be very tricky when you have to determine which style of frame would look the best for your piece of artwork. To assist you in making this decision, there are many professional framers who are ready and willing to give you the advice that you need to make the right choice.

Professional framers often have a selection of frames that you can look at alongside your artwork so that you can see what it would look like. You can compare and contrast different styles as well as colours and patterns. This is the same for mounts. Generally if you are having a coloured frame, it is advisable to have a plain mount so that nothing distracts the eye away from the artwork itself. The framer will be able to tell you all about this sort of thing.
