Choosing between a contemporary and traditional frame

May 28, 2010

When discussing your framing and mounting needs with your professional framer, it is always worthwhile having your artwork with you so that they might assess it to see what type of frame would best suit it. There are many frames to choose from when it comes to displaying artwork and it is essential that you carefully choose your new frame so that your artwork looks its best.

If you have a traditional style of painting such as an oil painting or a watercolour, it may look best inside a traditional frame. Traditional frames are usually made from wood and can often be ornate. Ornate frames look absolutely beautifully when they are hung over fireplaces or in the centre of a large wall in somebody’s home.

Alternatively, if you have a modern print or a painting which is by a modern artist, a contemporary frame may be more suitable. Contemporary frames are made from wood or metal and come in a variety of different colours to suit your personal taste. They can be made to order if your artwork is of an unusual size.
