I really like this photo of St Ives bridge. That’s St Ives, Cambs, not Cornwall. Taken with just 3 exposures as the sun was setting and blended using Photoshop, with a bit of enhanced colour in the river – let’s call it artistic licence

The Bridge is 15th century and crosses the River Great Ouse. It is one of only 4 bridges in England with a built-in chapel; the other 3 are in Rotherham, Wakefield and Bradford-upon-Avon. The structure not only served as a chapel but was at different times a tollhouse, an inn, a notorious public house, and a doctor’s surgery house.

The weather conditions are again affecting deliveries to the whole of the UK.

All orders up to and including 12th December, our cut-off date, will have been completed and despatched by tonight. We are now in the hands of the carriers and their ability to get your orders to you through the difficult conditions we see right now.

Here is the latest from our parcel carriers as at 20th Dec:

At present we have major challenges at our Droitwich sort centre. No trailers were able to leave the site last night due to the road from the facility being thick with ice. With overnight temperatures recorded at -18c in the area roads have remained impassable. The A38 (Droitwich) has been closed by police this morning meaning that at present no further movements into and out of Droitwich are possible.

We would like to thank you for your understanding and patience.

We have today been notified by our carriers that they have temporarily suspended the service for customers to be able to nominate a re-delivery day. This is due to the recent adverse weather which has caused a backlog of parcels awaiting delivery, and has therefore pushed their capacity beyond its limits.

This does not affect normal automatic re-delivery attempts, which will continue as follows:

1. Initial attempt of parcel delivery to consumer’s property
2. 2nd Delivery Attempt to be made on the next working day (subject to local delivery conditions)
3. The parcel is then to be scanned as held for 5 working days and reattempted once the 5 hold days having elapsed
4. The parcel may be returned to us or another re-delivery attempt made

Our order deadline for delivery before Christmas has now passed.

All orders placed after 12th December will be manufactured and despatched on a first come first served basis in the new year.

Update 21 Dec:  All orders placed up to and including 12th Dec have now been despatched.

We have a policy of taking payment at point of despatch, and so any orders placed from this point forward will be invoiced in January at the new VAT rate of 20%.

Our parcel carriers, Yodel, have informed us that there is a huge backlog of parcels awaiting delivery in Scotland and, as a result, they cannot guarantee that anything in the system, or sent from this point forward, will be delivered before Christmas.

Update 9th Dec: Our parcel carriers, Yodel, have today informed us that any orders for delivery to any part of Scotland from the 9th December definitely will not be delivered before Christmas.

Update: 13th Dec: “This means we have now freed up capacity to allow you to send parcels into Scotland”. It now appears as if the carriers have had some success clearing the Scotland backlog and are starting to take consignments from us, although we note that they stop short of guaranteeing pre-Christmas delivery.

Rest of UK

There are similar, but less severe, issues in a small number of other parts of the delivery network. We have been publishing daily updates of affected post code areas on the blog, and will continue to do so whilst these problems persist.

Update: 10th Dec direct from our carriers: “Based on our currently anticipated volumes and weather permitting, we are confident that all areas (except Scotland) will clear their backlogs and deliver parcels in time for Christmas.”

At this point we expect that midnight 12th December will be our cut-off point for orders requiring pre-Christmas delivery.

As always though at this time of year it can be quite tricky to predict this date until nearer the time so we may make an amendment later this week.

Given that the nature of our business is that we can receive large and unexpected orders at any time we would urge you, to avoid disappointment, not to leave it to the last minute if you have a pre-Christmas requirement, and get your orders in early.
